THE HAPPINESS FACTOR

Once in a while,
We glimpse the sands of time
Grasping the light by the chin
We hold fast
By and by,
With ample hands
We reach for the golden cup
A smiling dimple on our faces
Going down but never fading out

Once in a while,
With pouches of life on our waists
We linger and wait
Plodding and prodding
The sadness of life amplifies
Unsatisfied by the plot,
We duel and grovel
Hope always seems to float
By and by, once in a while
As we seem to sink or lose our sight
That walking stick we must never let go

Once in a while,
The prodigal sits and stares
Light seems to fade from him
And hope hides in corner so far away
A meek illusion of Noah’s Ark shows in oblivion
And in the midst of time
He searches for it and loses direction
Ample time lost in the distant horizon
The hole seems to be bleak
Weeks of tiredness weaken his vision
And the light of the tunnel fades away

Once in a while
She confides and consults
Wise men from the east,
Good Samaritans who grope and insult,
And when hopes fade to worst solutions
And when the sunbird loses emotional voice
And the peacock misplaces her most bright feather
On the bridge of doom she begins to make her choices
An empty vessels reacting to dark day

Once in a while,
When the sun does go down
And dawn is not at a distance near
And the dust does not seem to be too clear
Once in a while,
When time pauses and folds her two hands
Once in a while,
We must think of happiness.
